Update - Recommend Me A Book Or Two (or More)

I’m closing up my second year as a college student, and it’s quite strange to think that I’m halfway done. I’ve never really placed myself in time, as strange and unclear as that sounds, but I’ve never really thought of my self as a certain age or at a certain part of my life. That being said, summer is nigh. This means two things:

  • I’ll be updating the blog more often. It’s gotten a few cobwebs accumulating. I’m still deciding on what direction I want to go, but I figure I’ll keep going on aimlessly, but more consistently aimless.
  • I need summer reading recommendations.

I have too many books to possibly read this summer. But, and of course there’s a but, I still want more recommendations. I want to know the book, or two, or huge list, that I should not go this summer without picking up. I plan to read at least a book a week this summer. I want to catch up on the time suck that the last few weeks have been. I’ve been devoting it to papers, class, and friends that I won’t see again for a while.

Recommend away.

  • i can’t even keep up on my own summer reading. i just got a library card, and they only let you keep the books for two weeks, and check out a maximum of thirty. however, i am rapidly digesting anything written by neil gaiman, so sandman, stardust, neverwhere, american gods, and anansi boys are all highly recommended thus far.

oh, and also the tibetan book of the dead, as in reading it’s contents, it mentioned that as soon as i knew the names of certain spirits and families contained therein, my soul would never go to hell.

  • (you don’t know me and I don’t know you - but your blog is named for a weakerthans song so you must be cool)

Arcadia, by Tom Stoppard. A play that I can’t explain but love to bits.

Black Swan Green, by David Mitchell. A good coming-of-age story.

A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving. This book builds and builds until a crazy, powerful, dreamlike ending.
